Anthony Faiola
Anthony Faiola is a three-time Fulbright Scholar to Russia
in Web design and usability, Associate Professor of
Informatics, and Associate Director of the Human Computer
Interaction (HCI) Graduate Program at Indiana University
School of Informatics, IUPUI. Professor Faiola has pursued a
broad scholarly path from the early 1980s that has evolved
from the field of information design communication and
computer graphics to HCI. His 25 years of experience in
higher education, industry, and administration has placed
him in an array of roles and environments, both in the U.S.
and abroad.
After managing his own design and new media firm through the 1980s and early 90s, Professor Faiola accepted an administration position in an American publishing firm in St. Petersburg, Russia until 1998. After returning to the U.S., he accepted a faculty position at Purdue University’s Department of Computer Graphics, and in 2000 began teaching at IUPUI. Professor Faiola has over 40 published books, papers, and articles in the fields of communication, design, Web usability, and HCI pedagogy. In addition to scores of Web and software usability projects that include both private consulting and projects completed with his students, Professor Faiola maintains close contact with HCI professionals in the field, and is a member of the leading national and international HCI and usability organizations in the world, i.e., ACM—SIGCHI (Association for Computer Machinery - Special Interest Group of Computer-Human Interaction), and the local chapter of UPA (Usability Professional Association). With the goal of maintaining an international profile, he continues to lecture at universities in the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, and Russia on the subject of HCI and communication technology. He recently completed his third Fulbright appointment at Moscow State University and will Chair multiple HCI symposiums in London, Florence, (summer 2004) and Las Vegas (2005).
